When I set out to write Unignorable I wanted to reach at least 10,000 people affected by the pandemic and its consequences and help them thrive. A few months later, I found myself at the #1 spot in 6 countries on Amazon.
The journey to self-publishing a bestseller has been demanding, but it has also been highly rewarding personally and for my business. Now I want to share my key learnings with you. Here's how my book sold like crazy:
Before you start, take a step back and ask yourself the 3 big questions: What is the objective of my book? Who specifically am I writing for? Why would they care? If you can answer these questions, in a clear and concise way, you are ready to get writing.
Once you have the topic in mind, write down a short outline of the themes and topics that you would like to include. The next step is to do an audio recording on each of the themes. Speaking out loud can help you to get your thoughts and ideas flowing more freely. These recordings will then form the premise for each chapter of your book. Upload the audio files on Amberscript or Transcribe by Wreally and minutes later you get your text back - Voila!
When you are writing, think about what the book will look like on the shelves or on Amazon. What will make your book stand out? A catchy title? A new concept that you have coined? A story that no-one else has told? If you want your book to sell like crazy, think about the selling as early as when you pen your first draft.
I’m sure you’ve heard the expression “don’t judge a book by its cover”, but in this instance people do. Especially if you are a new or unknown author, people don’t know anything about who you are and what kind of books you write. So, making sure that the design of your book stands out is key to being noticed.
